Safety Philosophy
The ocean deserves respect. So do the people who enter it. We build every expedition around thoughtful planning, qualified professionals and responsible decision-making — because no experience is worth compromising safety.
Before booking, you will have the chance to review expedition-specific safety information, activity and certification requirements, medical considerations, wildlife guidelines and insurance requirements on the relevant expedition page.
Operator Standards
We work with local operators who meet our standards for safety, equipment, experience and responsible operations. Adventure is the goal. Cutting corners isn’t. We work with qualified guides, instructors and local experts who know the environment and the activities inside out. Their role isn’t just to show you where to go — it’s to assess conditions, manage risk, brief participants and make the call when conditions aren’t suitable.
Emergency Procedures
Before each expedition, we establish the relevant emergency protocols, communication methods, evacuation routes and nearest appropriate medical facilities. Guides and operators are responsible for activity-specific emergency response, while Wonderland coordinates with partners to ensure these plans are understood before guests enter the water.
Medical Considerations
The ocean asks something of your body. Understand the medical considerations, health requirements and potential risks associated with your expedition before you join us. You are responsible for disclosing relevant medical conditions, medications, injuries or limitations that could affect your participation. Depending on the expedition, medical clearance may be required. We will be clear about known physical demands and risks before booking — and our team can restrict participation if someone’s condition makes an activity unsafe.
Certification Requirements
Some experiences require specific certifications or qualifications. Find out what you need before booking — and what can be learned along the way. While some expeditions don’t require any specific pre-requisites, others may ask for a certain level of fitness, scuba diving certifications or freediving certifications. On some expeditions you may be able to acquire the needed certification throughout the trip.
Wildlife Interaction Guidelines
Wildlife encounters are a privilege, not a performance. Our guidelines are designed to protect both you and the animals we encounter, keeping interactions respectful, responsible and on their terms. Wild animals are not attractions, props or guaranteed encounters. We follow species-specific interaction protocols designed around animal behaviour and welfare. This may mean maintaining a minimum distance, limiting interaction time, avoiding touching or feeding animals, or ending an encounter altogether. The animal sets the terms of the encounter.
Insurance Requirements
Travel insurance is essential. Understand what coverage you need, what your policy should include and where your responsibility begins.
Every guest must have appropriate travel insurance for the activities included in their expedition. Depending on the itinerary, this may need to specifically cover freediving, scuba diving, water sports, remote-location evacuation and medical treatment. We will specify the minimum coverage required for each expedition on the respective expedition page.
Your Responsibility
Safety is a shared responsibility. You are expected to follow briefings and instructions, disclose relevant medical information, stay within your certified or agreed limits, use required safety equipment and speak up if something feels wrong. You can always choose not to participate in an activity — and you should never feel pressured to do so.
